Bootsma, Plummer Qualify for Worlds Team With Record-Setting Swims

Two local swimmers had a successful week.

Eden Prairie native Rachel Bootsma (swimming for California Aquatics and Minnesota Aquajets) won the 50-meter backstroke in 27.68 seconds to set LC National, U.S. Open and American swimming records Thursday, June 27 at the U.S. National Championship and World Championship Trials.  

Shortly after, David Plummer (Minnetonka Swim Club coach) won the 50 backstroke in a new LC National and U.S. Open record time of 24.52.

On Friday, Plummer became a 2-time national champion, winning the 100 backstroke in 53.10.

The swims qualified Bootsma and Plummer for the world championship team heading to Barcelona, Spain, July 28 through Aug. 4.

Plummer's 50 meter swim is the fastest in the world thus far and his 100 meter swim ties second in the world.  

Bootsma's times in the 50 and 100 backstrokes currently rank 3rd and 8th in the world, respectively.
