Search Continues For Mandy Matula Two Months Later

An all-day search on July 14 will focus on the Mississippi River and islands using boats and kayaks.

Family, friends and strangers are still thinking about Mandy Matula, a 24-year-old woman from Eden Prairie, two months after she went missing.

"I ran my first marathon today, and my Mandy bracelet stayed put the whole way," wrote Amanda Taylor on the Facebook page dedicated to Finding Mandy Matula, now 9,400 members strong. "Running for her definitely gave me the strength to finish."

"When I worked with Mandy at the city she was so much fun," wrote Matt Johnson. "This coming winter when my vintage snowmobile racing gets underway I will be changing my number to a purple #14 in honor of Mandy."

And not just hopeful messages continue for the Matula family but action as well.

Minnesota United, headed by Mandy's brother Steven, will be searching for Matula in the St. Cloud area on Saturday, July 14 (Mandy's favorite number). The all-day search will focus on the Mississippi River and islands using boats and kayaks.

Because of the dangerous nature of the search, organizers are asking people to fill out a questionnaire before volunteering. At this time, teams are filling up and only a few people in kayaks for Team 3 are needed.

Matula has been missing since the evening of May 1. She was reported missing after she failed to show up to work on May 2. She was last seen with David Roe at Matula's family home.

Matula and Roe were dating but had broken up recently. Officers asked to speak to Roe after he was identified as a “person of interest,” and he agreed to come in. He shot himself in the Eden Prairie City Center parking lot before police were able to speak with him. Roe died at Hennepin County Medical Center, and the death has been classified as a suicide.
