Officials Investigating Whether Remains Found Saturday are Mandy Matula

A hiker discovered the remains in a shallow grave in Mississippi River Park.

Officials are investigating whether human remains found in a shallow grave Saturday near Sartell are those of Mandy Matula, Eden Prairie announced.

Stearns County notified Eden Prairie Police that a hiker discovered remains after 1 p.m. in a shallow grave in Mississippi River Park.

The identity and gender of the individual have not been confirmed. Eden Prairie police, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are working together to determine if the remains come from Matula, a 24-year-old Eden Prairie woman who was last seen May 1.
