Medical Examiner Rules Death of Nina Mackay an Accident

The 56-year-old Eden Prairie woman was killed by a fallen tree while walking on a city trail Friday evening.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has released a report on the death for Nina Blacklow Mackay, the 56-year-old woman who was killed by a fallen tree on Friday evening in Eden Prairie. 

The ME reported that Mackay's manner of death was an accident and cause of death was "multiple blunt force injuries."

At 5:20 p.m. on Friday, July 5, a 911 call came into police that a very large tree had fallen and a woman was screaming. The incident occurred on a city trail on George Moran Drive in Miller Park.

Mackay was found pinned beneath a 90-year-old basswood tree 30 inches in diameter and was immediately pronounced dead. Officials are still trying to find out why the tree fell, when it appeared to be healthy.
