Rachel Bootsma Finishes 7th at World Swimming Championships

The swimmer from Eden Prairie qualified for worlds after a record-breaking swim in June.

Rachel Bootsma finished seventh in the 50-meter backstroke at the World Swimming Championships in Barcelona last weekend with a time of 28.05.

Zhao Jing from China took the gold (27.29) with teammate Fu Yuanhui getting the silver. The bronze went to Japan's Aya Terakawa. 

In June, Bootsma (swimming for California Aquatics and Minnesota Aquajets) won the 50-meter backstroke in 27.68 seconds to set LC National, U.S. Open and American swimming records at the U.S. National Championship and World Championship Trials. The swim qualified Bootsma for worlds.

American swimmer Missy Franklin, 18, won a record six gold medals, becoming the winningest female swimmer ever at the world championship. Minnetonka swim coach David Plummer earned second place in the 100-meter backstroke.
