Equality Hero? 15 Minutes of Fame? Public Debates Kluwe's Claims

Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe said he thinks he was fired because of his support for gay marriage.

Former Vikings punter Chris Kluwe is back in the news after penning an article for Deadspin that called special teams coach Mike Priefer a “bigot” and then-coach Leslie Frazier and General Manager Rick Spielman “cowards.

The article recounts pushback that Kluwe said he got after he started speaking out in favor of gay marriage. He was cut from the team in May.

“I honestly don't know if my activism was the reason I got fired,” Kluwe wrote. “However, I'm pretty confident it was.”

The Vikings have retained former Chief Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court Eric Magnuson and former U.S. Department of Justice Trial Attorney Chris Madel to investigate Kluwe’s allegations. But several of Kluwe’s former teammates are defending the Vikings leadership.

In the meantime, the debate is playing out on social media. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
