Eden Prairie Rally Falls Short at Girls' Tip Off Classic

The Eagles lost to Lakeville South 42-39.

Eden Prairie suffered a loss to Lakeville South in a close-run match-up at Saturday’s Breakdown Sports USA Tip Off Classic in Hopkins.

Lakeville South ended the first half up by 11. Eden Prairie fought back in the second, outscoring Lakeville South 21-13. But the comeback attempt wasn’t quite enough. The game ended 42-39.

Senior guard Jayla Mayes-Jackson led the Eagles with 12 points. Junior center Rachael Platt and eighth grader Christianna Carr each tallied eight points.

The 10th-annual Breakdown Sports USA Girls’ Tip Off Classic featured 12 girls’ games and three boys’ games, including the Apple Valley-DeLaSalle matchup. Fifteen of the 24 girls’ teams are in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in all four classes.

Eden Prairie boys will take the court Saturday at the Boys’ Tip Off Classic at Minnetonka High School. The event features 15 boys’ games. Twenty-three of the 30 teams are ranked in Breakdown Sports’ top 15 preseason rankings, including the No. 1 team in two of the four classes. Eden Prairie plays at 2:15 p.m. against Champlin Park.
