Eden Prairie Football Makes it a Three-Peat

The Eagles won their third-consecutive championship Friday.

Eden Prairie football on Friday became the first team to win the Class AAAAAA football championship three times in a row.

The Eagles’ 28-7 victory over Rosemount is their ninth title overall. The team won in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2007, 2011 and 2012.

Eden Prairie was first to put points on the board when senior quarterback Ryan Connelly hit senior running back Charlie Venable with a 54-yard touchdown pass with 10:40 still to go in the first. Connelly then shot a 51-yard pass to senior running back Anthony Anderson with 1:14 left in the first.

Rosemount responded with 5:41 left before the end of the half when a four-yard touchdown by junior running back Tyrek Cross capped off a 14-play, 77-yard drive. But the very next drive ended in a 15-yard touchdown run by Anderson, who would end up rushing 19 times for 165 yards over the course of the game.

Eden Prairie senior fullback Dan Fisher sealed Rosemount’s fate with a one-yard touchdown with 4:35 left in the fourth.

The Eagles tallied 285 yards rushing and 118 yards passing to Rosemount’s 116 rushing yards and 41 passing yards.
