Man Hides Machete in Pants During Walmart Shoplifting Incident

The 18-year-old Carver man has been charged with misdemeanor theft.

An 18-year-old Carver man wasn’t happy to see the police who caught him. He just had a machete in his pants.

Walmart reported the man at 4:15 p.m. Jan. 11 after store security saw him shoplifting items throughout the store, according to Eden Prairie Police reports.

Security first noticed him in the electronics section, where he grabbed a cell phone charger and then went to the men’s apparel section, opened the package and concealed the charger.

They then saw him cut a machete off a locking peg, go into a restroom and hide it on himself. He also grabbed a pair of boots, put them on and left his own boots behind. Then he cut a pocket knife from a locking peg and left the store without paying.

Officers caught him near the intersection of Prairie Center Drive and Technology Drive, on the ramp to eastbound Highway 212.

They found a machete hidden in his waist and right pant leg and a folding knife in his left boot. They also found a dog collar and aquarium supplies that appeared to be stolen.

In all, the man is thought to have stolen $212 worth of items.

Police ticketed him for misdemeanor theft.
