Eden Prairie Woman Charged with Slapping Police Officer

An Eden Prairie woman has been charged with assault after police say she slapped an officer while he was attempting to arrest her.

Elizabeth Mary Leeds, 24, is charged with fourth-degree assault of a peace officer, a gross misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in jail and a $3,000 fine.

Eden Prairie police were called to Santorini Taverna on Technology Drive just before 1 a.m. Dec. 14 to investigate a reported fight, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Eden Prairie Police Detective Kyle Duchschere.

When an officer arrived, he joined another Eden Prairie officer, who was talking to two women outside the restaurant, one of them Leeds. Another man walked up and accused Leeds of assaulting a bartender inside the restaurant.

Leeds began to argue with the man, and one of the officers told Leeds to walk away. When she continued to yell at the man, the officer started to escort her away.

Leeds yanked her left arm away from the officer and yelled, “Get your [expletive] hands off me,” then pulled her hand back and slapped the officer’s face, according to the complaint.

The officer described the slap as “forceful and deliberate.”

Leeds was arrested. During the process, she said, “You’re going to get what’s coming to you for arresting me, just wait,” according to the complaint.

Leeds has been released from custody. She is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge Dec. 17 in Hennepin County District Court.
