Eden Prairie Police Say Blaine Man Bit Officer

A Blaine man is accused of biting an Eden Prairie officer after he was stopped Jan. 30 for driving with a revoked driver’s license.

The officer noticed 39-year-old Agustin Rolando Ola at 9:45 a.m. during a routine registration check on Highway 212, Detective Andrew Rohde wrote in a criminal complaint released Friday. The officer stopped Ola when the check reported that his license had been revoked.

He told the dispatcher that the vehicle needed to be impounded, but because it was cold, the officer offered to let Ola sit in the back of his squad car. Ola sat down before the officer had a chance to pat him down, put both hands in his pockets and turned away from the officer, according to the court documents.

The officer—who became suspicious that Ola had something in his pockets and feared it might be a weapon—asked the man to take his hands out of his pockets. Despite multiple requests, Ola refused.

When the officer grabbed Ola’s wrists, Ola “immediately rose up, swung his arms, and pushed Officer F.B.,” according to the court documents. He then reportedly turned his head to the right and bit the officer on the wrist, breaking the skin and causing the officer to bleed.

The officer yanked his wrist away and pushed Ola to the ground, where he continued to struggle against the officer. A “concerned citizen” saw the fight and helped the officer subdue and handcuff Ola.

Other officers arrived on the scene, and Ola was arrested on suspicion of assault.

There was nothing of note found in Ola's pockets, according to an Eden Prairie spokeswoman.

The officer was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center to have his injuries treated. In addition to the bite wound, he had several scrapes on his body and redness and swelling on his left ear.

Ola has been charged with fourth-degree assault, a felony with a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a $6,000 fine. He’s also been charged with driving after revocation, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Ola is being held in Hennepin County jail on $20,000 bond.
