Big Turnout for GOP Caucus

More than 300 conservative Republicans came out last Tuesday night to attend the Eden Prairie GOP Caucus.  There were many newcomers as well as new faces from the Minnetonka wards which are now part of SD48.

The press was in attendance due to three statewide candidates showing up and speaking to the caucus. Dave Thompson, Mike McFadden and Marty Seifert all spoke along with Eden Prairie elected officials Sen. David Hann, Rep. Jenifer Loon and EP Councilman Brad Aho. Former Representative Kirk Stensrud also spoke, kicking off his campaign to retake his seat in the MN House which he lost in 2012 by only 202 votes.

It was impressive to see so many come out with temps in the single digits in a non-presidential year and dozens signed up to volunteer for the various campaigns and committees. This shows the interest and energy of the conservatives in Eden Prairie who have suffered at the hands of a state government owned by radical DFL politicians.

Among the topics discussed included the Southwest Light Rail boondoggle which the unelected Met Council seeks to force through the city at a cost of almost $2 billion dollars. Excess taxation, wasted tax dollars on DFL cronies, the 13 DFL Senate candidates (including Eden Prairie DFL candidate Laurie McKendry) who were found guilty of violating state finance laws during the 2012 campaign and an arrogant DFL majority were also issues hotly discussed in the precincts.

Our Caucus made the front page of the metro section of the Star Tribune yesterday and MPR as well.  See the links below.

SD48 straw poll results showed a virtual tie in the Governor’s race between Seifert and Johnson with Thompson coming in third.  McFadden took the Senate race poll with Ortman a close second and Abeler a distant third.
