VIDEO: Meet Mark Andrew, Contestant on NBC's 'The Voice' From Eden Prairie

On Season 4 of the hit show "The Voice," Eden Prairie's Mark Andrew breaks onto the scene.

If you watch "The Voice," there's great news.

Eden Prairie resident Mark Andrew, 27, is a strong contestant to follow during Season 4.

In Monday night's season premiere of NBC's hit reality talent show, both Adam Levine and Shakira fought to have Andrew on their teams after he performed his original version of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" during blind auditions. He picked Shakira, because he said on the show his wife would kill him if he didn't.

The series consists of three phases: a blind audition, a battle phase and live performance shows. During the blind audition phase, the coaches start with their backs turned to the contestants and hit a button to turn around if they'd like the performer to be on their team.

In his post-audition interview (watch above), Andrew said right before he hit the stage, "everything went blank."

"I was just trying to breathe and remember not to screw up," he said.

Andrew explained in the interview that "it's all kind of a blur when you're up there."

"The audience is screaming and the back of those four chairs are sitting there right in front of you," he explained. "It's so surreal."

Andrew said after he got a couple lines out, he saw Levine's chair turn around, followed by Shakira's.

"I just started shaking and went on auto-pilot from that point on."

After the blind auditions are complete, each team of singers is mentored by its coach. During the battle phase, coaches have two of their team members battle against each other directly by singing the same song together, with the coach choosing which one will advance.

In the final phase, the remaining contestants compete against each other in live broadcasts for viewer votes.

"It's going to be a challenge– there are some really good people," Andrew said. "Who knows who they will put me against in a battle."

Superstar coaches this season are Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher.

"One of the main reasons I like Shakira is that she is an international superstar," Andrew said. "She does the whole world–that's her playground–not just the United States. That's something I would love to do."

Even with the fierce competition, Andrew is confident. "I think I'm unique enough that I might just be able to pull this off."
