Halloween Activities in the Three Rivers Park District

Check out events happening during October to celebrate Halloween 2013.

Registration is required for most events.  Register with Three Rivers Park District by calling 763-559-6700. 

Hyland’s Spooks and Ladders Trick-or-Treat Trail

When: 5-8 p.m. Saturday, October 12

Where: Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington

Why go: Walk on a short trail with animal puppets and games leading into the play area.  Meet a friendly dinosaur and wander a maze. Come in costume and bring a bag for goodies. Cost is $5 for those who pre-register, $6 for registration the day of the event (based on availability). Children under 2 are admitted free. Reference activity number #463007H1.

Ghost Town

When: 6-9 p.m. Friday, October 18

Where: The Landing – Minnesota River Heritage Park, Shakopee

Why go: Walk along candlelit streets in the Village of Eagle Creek. Visit historic buildings and hear costumed interpreters share folktales, legends, superstition, and local history. Refreshments and campfire provided. Cost is $5 and reservations are required. This program is for ages 12+. Reference activity number #438407-20. 

Old-Fashioned Trick Or Treat

When: 4-8 p.m. Saturday, October 19

Where: The Landing – Minnesota River Heritage Park, Shakopee

Why go: Trick-or-treat along candlelit paths to 20 treat stops.  Finish your celebration with cider, a cookie and entertainment in the Town Hall. Costumes are encouraged and bring a bag for goodies. Cost is $9 for pre-registration with treats (children) and $5 without treats (adults). Day-of registration is $10 with treats (children) and $6 without treats (adults). Children under 2 are admitted free (without treats). Reference activity number #438407-32. 

Baker Boo

When: 1-9 p.m. Saturday, October 19

Where: Baker Park Reserve, Maple Plain.

Why go:  Participate in a round of Ghoulish Golf, throw spears, solve a skull mystery and play other games of chance. Carve a pumpkin, make a scarecrow, or try the fish pond. The evening will be filled with campsite awards and prizes sponsored by Hoigaard’s. Cost includes campsite for Saturday night and unlimited activities from 1-9 p.m. Reservations are required by October 11. Cost is $77.20 for a non-electric site, $82.54 for a 30-amp site, $85.75 for a 50-amp site and $120.75 for a camper cabin. Reference activity number #410007-X2.

Little Folks Halloween

When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 26,

Where: Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Dayton.

Why go: Meet costumed animal characters on the woodland trail and go on a scavenger hunt in search of special pumpkins. Dig for the golden acorn in the corn pool, jump in a straw pile, play games to win prizes, and meet live animals. Join a DJ for a dance party. Enjoy a puppet show, refreshments, and a fall craft. Dress to be outside. Start anytime between 10 a.m. and noon. Cost is $5 and reservations are highly recommended. This program is for ages 2+. Reference activity number #412207-01. 

Pumpkin Boats

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, October 26

Where: Kroening Interpretive Center, in North Mississippi Regional Park, Minneapolis.

Why go: Participate in some pumpkin science, then turn a mini pumpkin into a boat. Send a pumpkin boat down the Mississippi River and take one home. Cost is $5 and reservations are required. Reference activity number #416901-02. 

Lowry’s Enchanted Forest Halloween

When: 5-9 p.m. Saturday, October 26

Where:  Lowry Nature Center, in Carver Park Reserve, Victoria.

Why go: Bring your family in costume to trick-or-treat along a character trail through the enchanted forest. There will be games, music, a craft, and activities for all ages. Concessions will be available for purchase. Cost is $9 for children, $5 for adults and children under 2 are free. 

Zombie Dash

When: 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 26

Where: French Regional Park, Plymouth

Why go: Halloween fun run for all ages through the wooded, lighted trails of French Regional Park. Walkers are welcome, too. Costumes encouraged. Festivities also will include a bonfire with marshmallow roasting and hot apple cider. Strollers are welcome; no pets. Cost is $10 for the 5K for ages 10 and up; $2 for the 1K for ages 2 and up. Pre-registration is encouraged; registration the day of the event will be available. Reference activity number #425135-00. 

Big Woods Halloween

When: 6-9 p.m. Saturday, October 26

Where: Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve Dayton.

Why go: Meet costumed animal superhero characters and collect treats along the woodland trail. Visit the Gross-Out Grotto to attempt the Eat-A-Bug Challenge, Cockroach Races and the Gross-Out Station. Meet live animals and dig in the Animal Graveyard. Play Bone Bingo and other Halloween games, and follow the Pumpkin Trail to refreshments at a bonfire. Be entertained by the dancing of the Illumination Fire Troupe. Arrive between 6pm and 7:30 p.m. Trail closes at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $9 for children and $5 for adults who pre-register and $10 for children and $6 for adults who register the day of the event. This program is for ages 6+. Reference activity number #412207-04.  

Pumpkin Carving for Families

When: 1-3 p.m. Sunday, October 27, from 1-3 p.m.

Where:  Lowry Nature Center, in Carver Park Reserve, Victoria.

Why go: A skilled pumpkin carver will help you create a design together and provide tips and tricks to good pumpkin carving. Pumpkin provided. Children under age 12 should work alongside an adult. Cost is $8 and reservations are required. This program is for ages 4+. Reference activity number #411301-04.
