Eden Prairie Native Makes It Through Blind Auditions on 'The Voice'

Mark Andrew, 27, picked Shakira as his coach after singing 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door' by Bob Dylan.

Eden Prairie resident Mark Andrew made it through to the next round Monday night on NBC's reality show "The Voice."

Andrew, 27, picked Shakira as his coach. Both Shakira and Adam Levine turned around during Andrew's blind audition, as he sang "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan.

During the premiere of Season 4 of 'The Voice," Levine said he “was hooked” when Andrew was through singing. He ultimately decided to join Team Shakira, saying his wife would kill him if he didn’t.

Andrew hopes to leave his job as a roofer and sing professionally.

"Roofing is not something I want to do for the rest of my life," he said on the show. "It's definitely dangerous work."

Andrew said he joined a band in high school. "The band was such a cohesive unit," he said. "We could play off each other without having to speak, it was one of those relationships."

The band's drummer was killed by a drunk driver, and the band's guitar player passed away recently, Andrew told the show's host Carson Daly.

"It was a pretty big impact," he said. "It was kind of like you lost a part of yourself."
