Only 202 votes separating Yvonne Selcer and Kirk Stensrud in the race for Minnesota House District 48A. That was the only really close race that affected Eden Prairie.

In the Eden Prairie City Council race, incumbents Brad Aho and Ron Case won every precinct in Eden Prairie. Challenger Duckstad came in third at all local polling places.

The highest number of write-in votes for City Council were in Precinct 16, in southwest Eden Prairie (see attached map). The names of the write-ins was not immediately available.

Despite winning the total votes, incumbent David Hann received fewer votes in Minnesota Senate District 48 than Laurie McKendry in the following Eden Prairie precincts: 3, 4, 12 and 13.

Keith Downey won the vote in the only Eden Prairie precinct that cast ballots in his Minnesota Senate District 49 race against Melisa Franzen. Incumbent Downey lost the total vote to Franzen.

Incumbent Kirk Stensrud won 6 of 7 Eden Prairie precincts in Minnesota House District 48A, even though he lost the total vote to Yvonne Selcer.

Incumbent Jenifer Loon won 9 of 11 Eden Prairie precincts in her Minnesota House District 48B race against Tori Hill.

Terry Jacobson won the only Eden Prairie precinct that voted in the Minnesota House District 49B race. Jacobson lost in the total vote, however, to Paul Rosenthal. 

All results are preliminary until they are certified by election officials.

The election was not without its challenges. Eden Prairie precincts numbers were delayed by several hours. Around midnight, Eden Prairie City Clerk Kathleen Porta said the first results were transmitted around 9 p.m. and the others steadily after that. She said Hennepin County then had to send the results to the Secretary of State. However, there was a delay at the county level.

Rachel Smith, the Hennepin County elections manager, said Wednesday that’s partly because of an absentee ballot law that changed in 2010.

That law prohibits counting absentee ballots until after the polls close. To add to the challenge, the county was receiving absentee ballots from couriers as late as 7 p.m. Hopkins precincts were the last in their legislative district (46) to have results posted because of the late absentee votes.
