Eden Prairie Results: Aho, Case and Loon Re-elected

With all legislative precincts reporting, Hann, Franzen, Selcer, Loon and Rosenthal seem to have won their races. The votes still need to be certified. Judicial votes still aren't all in.

The two incumbent Eden Prairie City Council members have been re-elected.

Brad Aho and Ron Case will remain on the council with 37 percent and 35 percent of the vote, respectively. Jon Duckstad received 29 percent of the vote.

In the Minnesota Senate races, David Hann retained his seat against Laurie McKendry, and Melisa Franzen defeated Keith Downey.

In the Minnesota House districts, Jenifer Loon was re-elected. Yvonne Selcer and Kirk Stensrud are separated by only 202 votes, with Selcer ahead after all precincts have been reported. Paul Rosenthal defeated Terry Jacobson.

By 2 a.m., all judicial precincts were not in, so the results of those races are not known

These results are not final until they are certified.

THE POLLS WERE BUSY

By about 10:30 a.m. almost 600 voters had visited Eden Lake Elementary (Precinct 15) in Eden Prairie. One election judge said a line had formed by the time polls opened at 7 a.m.

By about 11 a.m., more than 730 voters had cast ballots at Eden Prairie Assembly of God (Precinct 2).

"The polls opened at 7, but we actually had people lining up at 6," said John Peters, head election judge at Precinct 2. The precinct always is busy in the first hours of the day, he said.

After the initial rush, the pace of voters remained steady through the morning. "It has never been quiet," Peters said before smiling.

Peters complimented his fellow election judges.

"We work very hard and we do it because we want to uphold the right to vote for all who want to do so," he added.

Eden Prairie residents took to Twitter throughout the day to share their experiences at the city's precincts.

"Eden Prairie P #10: at 7:00 am, >100 in line and church parking lot nearly full. Unprecedented," wrote AliasNielsBohr.

"Voted at 8:45 a.m. in Eden Prairie, at Hennepin Tech. Busy, but no lines. Election judges were great," Mark Weber wrote.

"1 hour wait to vote in Eden Prairie, MN! Never had to wait before…," wrote Robin McCrackin.

At about 6:30 p.m., Johanna Conrad wrote, "Voter 1501 in Eden Prairie, Precinct 13."

HISTORICAL DATA

Prior to redistricting in February, Eden Prairie was in state Legislative Districts 42A and 42B.

The results from the 2008 election show Eden Prairie voted in favor of President Barack Obama in both legislative districts. He received 54 percent of the vote in 42A and 51 percent in 42B. John McCain received 44 percent of the votes in 42A and 48 percent in 42B.

More of the city's residents voted Republican, however, in the contentious U.S. Senator race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken. Coleman received 47 percent of the votes from 42A, while Franken received 40 percent. Independence Party candidate Dean Barkley received 13 percent of the votes from 42A. Fifty-two percent of the votes from District 42B went to Coleman, 35 percent to Franken and 12 percent to Barkley.

There was a split in the state legislative elections. District 42A went to DFLer Maria Rudd and District 42B went to Republican Jenifer Loon.

How will Eden Prairie residents vote this year? We're looking forward to seeing how it all shakes out. Check back here after the polls close for up-to-the minute results. We will publish a story explaining how Eden Prairie voted on state and national issues and candidates on Wednesday.
